Optimal Road Bike Tire Pressure
The amount of weight that will be exerted on the tires does play a crucial role in how much pressure you will put on a tire.
Optimal road bike tire pressure. Proper tire pressure lets your bike roll quickly ride smoothly and avoid flats narrow tires need more air pressure than wide ones. For example on my touring bike when not loaded and just my body weight and bike weigh calculated using 32 wide tires i use 45 psi front and 70 rear but if i add 55 pounds of gear for touring i now have to raise that psi to 60 f and 90 r. Tyre pressure needs to be adjusted depending on where the bike is being ridden. Outside of these ranges decrease the pressure a couple psi for light wheel loads or don t since the difference between the optimal 36 psi and 40 psi for a 40 lb wheel load is likely not an issue and your pressure gauge likely reads high anyway and increase the pressure a few psi for heavy loads or don t since the tire is possibly being overloaded and you should consider getting a wider.
The energy to keep moving forward comes from the rider and the cost leaves less energy for propelling the bike down the road. Any kind of water on the road decreases the grip of the tyres so it s prudent to lower tyre pressure.
