Road Bike Chain Jumping
As an addendum to other answers this was happening to me not ghost shifting but the chain jumping forward.
Road bike chain jumping. This started on a new chain so i changed the cassette. A test ride demonstrated that it only jumped in the middle chainring by far the most used even though it didn t look much more worn than the other rings. The chain jumping when putting the power down is a classic sign of something in the drivetrain being worn out. Unfortunately if you have been using wd40 as a lube you may well have worn out the chain and or cogs and or chainset prematurely as it is just too thin for this application and will also act as a solvent washing out any existing oils.
