Road Bike Pedals Vs Mtb
I came to road via mtb and use eggbeaters on the road bike.
Road bike pedals vs mtb. I rode that until i got my first mountain bike in 1999 and moved to spd pedals and cleats. Often coming as double sided pedals means they re easier to get in at the green light. How much performance am i giving up if i use mountain bike shoes and pedals. And since i had the mountain bike first i put the same brand of mountain bike pedals time atac on my road bike which saved me from having to buy another pair of shoes.
I wore shimano carbon sole road shoes for years a while ago i switched to the new specialized body geometry road shoes designed by andy pruitt. Mtb cleats on a road bike make a lot of sense too they re smaller lighter and therefore more aero. I ll be training and racing in new england. I currently ride a 2007 trek 5 2 madone sl.
Maybe it might not seem important but actually the surface of the contact area is the one that generates the differences between the two pedals. While mountain bike pedals go with very small cleats which are easier to unlock from the pedal road bike pedals go with larger ones that increase the contact surface between the sole and pedal. The only downside in pure racing terms is a bit more flex in the shoe sole so not quite as much power transferred. The pedals were two sided one side was a bear claw and the other side had the spd interface.
I like to use my mountain bike pedals and shoes for road biking but i get funny looks on group rides. Coach fred matheny replies. I also ride a mountain bike. My road shoes have time cleats my mtb shoes spd s.
Work well for me easy to clip in out and can walk in shoes. Just for some background back when i started riding a proper road bike a 12 speed just shy of 30 years ago i had toe clips and straps. Friends who transferred with me went for road pedals and after getting used to clipping in out which took a little longer for them than me the only difference now is that i can walk easier in my mtb shoes cleats. Pedals reviewed from shimano look speedplay and time.
What shoes do you use.
